Wrapped in Love, Kipp Price of Gainesville, FL died peacefully on Oct. 26th, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. A true force of nature, Kipp Tyler Smith was born to Thomas and Jeanette Smith (Ozanne) in Miami Beach. She grew up Miami’s surrounding areas, but mainly on the beach. She ‘willingly’ attended the Everglades School for Girls after making a deal with her mother that she would get a car after it was over. Kipp also attended Gables High School, where she was elected “Most Likely to Succeed.” She earned a BA in English with a minor in Education from the University of Miami. Kipp received many awards for her work as an educator in Miami. She is preceded in death by her sister Priscilla, brother Todd, nephew Karl, and cousin Derek. In addition, many beloved friends, including Ed and Al, and her dog Paris. Her survivors are everyone she loved and uplifted. You know who you are.
Greatly influenced by her grandmother Gifford’s spiritualism, she easily shared great spiritual truths. She also understood that Love is everything. Kipp had the “gift of gab,” and loved talking with people when she was shopping. She had an amazing ability to remember everyone’s names and their stories. One of her hairdressers’ said, “She made everybody feel like they were the most important person and that their purpose on earth was the most important thing. She saw the beauty in everyone.” Her list of accomplishments includes teaching challenging kids, promoting adult literacy, Bible study groups in nursing homes, volunteering at several non-profit groups, and creating yoga classes for special needs people.
After she moved to Gainesville with her husband Larry Price, Kipp organized a Neighborhood Crime Watch, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and the March of Dimes. She also helped Larry raise and support his daughters, Wendy, Pam and Paula. Later she volunteered at Haven Hospice.
She was inquisitive and interested in reading, spirituality, gardening, cooking, theater, and travel. In 1999, she was ordained by the Alliance of Divine Love and worked for that ministry for many years while also being a member of Unity Church of Gainesville. She formed many friendships through her activites. Kipp was well travelled, witty, artistic, wise, funny, generous, grateful and spiritual. Kipp especially loved her family and friends. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, fashion sense, beauty, positivity, and deep love. She was a devoted partner of 14.5 years to Jane B. Roy, aka Weed, and their fur baby Happy. She will be missed by all who loved her, including clerks and cashiers with whom she shared kind moments with.
Kipp was cremated by water at Gentle Water Cremation in West Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to Alachua Conservation Trust or any non-profit supporting children or animals. Milam Funeral Home of Gainesville, FL is in charge of service arrangements.
